Mountain View Invitational Up Next for the Rebels

March 9, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Golf began a busy week on a high note by picking up its first team tournament win of the 2016-17 season at the Battle at Boulder Creek, March 6 and 7, after carding a three-round score of 12-under 852 - the lowest 54-hole score for the team this year. Three weeks removed from her first-ever collegiate tournament win, Mackenzie Raim picked up her second one after shooting a 7-under 209 to take first by five strokes. The tournament was a late add to the spring schedule and was played at their home course of Boulder Creek Golf Club.

The Battle at Boulder Creek was a great opportunity for the Rebels to fine tune their game before heading into the Mountain View Invitational in Tucson this weekend, while it was also a chance for team members who haven't been traveling to compete in an event. The Scarlet & Gray golfers took advantage of the opportunity, playing very well over the two-day event. In all, the nine Rebels competing finished in the top-17, including the first through third spots with eight of nine in the top eight. Harley Dubsky completed her best three-round performance, finishing at 2-under 214 to take second. A pleasant surprise came from senior Vivian Chen, who was playing as an individual in one of the last tournaments of her final collegiate season. In the second round, Chen's 65 matched the second-lowest single round score in program history, shared with former Rebel and current LPGA tour member Dana Finkelstein. It was just one shot off the all-time low of 64, set by current sophomore Elizabeth Prior in the same tournament last year. Chen finished in a tie for third after a 54-hole score of 1-under 215.

Next up is the Mountain View Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri at the Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona. The 54-hole tournament will take place over three days, March 10-12, with 18 holes a day, on a par 72 6,227-yard course. Play begins every morning at 8:30 a.m. MT.

REBELS RANKINGS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST: As a team, the Rebels are currently third in the conference with a 293.50 scoring average and a 6.50 average score against par, but do own the lowest single-round score in the conference this year with a 279, which came in the second round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in October. Individually, Raim ranks sixth in scoring average (72.83) in the league, followed by Alexandra Kaui at eighth with a 73.25 and Elizabeth Prior in 13th with a 73.92.

THE LINEUP: The UNLV lineup in Tucson is junior Mackenzie Raim, senior Alexandra Kaui, sophomore Elizabeth Prior, junior Harley Dubsky and sophomore Alyssa Getty. Transfer Nastasia Kossacky will play as an individual and not count towards the team score.
