April 12, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior Jakob Amilon was named Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week for a league-leading third time this season and fifth time in his career, the conference announced Wednesday.

Playing at the No. 1 positions in the lineup, Amilon went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles over the weekend while helping the Rebels to a pair of victories over Nevada, Reno and Fresno State.

The native of Stockholm, Sweden, fought off UNR's Julien Evrard in three sets on Friday after earlier helping the Rebels earn the doubles point with a 6-4 doubles win with partner Evaldo Neto.

On Senior Day vs. the Bulldogs on Sunday, Amilon again won in doubles at the top of the lineup, 6-2, before downing Xander Veys 7-6, 6-4 in what was his final home match.

Amilon also won the MW award March 15 and February 8 and twice in 2016.

UNLV (14-7) plays on the road this weekend, taking on New Mexico on Friday and Air Force on Sunday.
