TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Golf stayed steady Saturday in round two at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz., as the Rebels shot even par as a team to stay at 1-over (577) through 36 holes. They were able to jump up a spot in the leaderboard, however, as defending NCAA Champion Washington dropped from a tie for third to fifth after carding a 6-over in the second round.
Two Rebels started the day in the top 10 - senior
Alexandra Kaui in a tie for sixth and junior
Mackenzie Raim in a tie for 10th - and at days end it was Kaui who remained as she shot a 1-over 73 in round two to put her in a tie for ninth at 1-under. After shooting a round one score of 1-under 71, Raim experienced some struggles on Saturday, carding a 7-over to move to 6-over for tournament and drop into a tie for 48th.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Prior and freshman
Alli Kim, who is playing as an individual, each shot a 2-over through the first 18 holes and that's where both would sit after the second 18 as each of them were even on the day to sit in a tie for 21st heading into Sunday's final round. Sophomore
Alyssa Getty also entered Saturday's round at 2-over, but recorded a 3-over round-two score to fall to a tie for 39th at 5-over for the tournament. Senior
Harley Dubsky bounced back from a less than ideal first round, recording the Rebels' best round at the tournament with a 4-under 68 to improve to 9-over overall.
Tournament host No. 5 Arizona State held the lead at 10-under heading into play on Saturday and shot even par to stay put atop the leaderboard. No. 15 Baylor, who started the day tied with the Sun Devils, had a rough round two as the Bears shots 9-over to drop to third place at 1-under. No.17 Arizona made a big move on Saturday, carding a 6-under as a team to move up to second at 7-under and just three back from their in-state rival ASU. The Rebels are now just two strokes behind Baylor and are four ahead of fifth-place Washington heading into the last round.
Day one leader, ASU's Monica Vaughn, also stayed steady on Saturday, shooting even par to stay at 8-under, but her lead dwindled from four strokes to two with teammate Roberta Liti and
Arizona's Krystal Quihuis both at 6-under after shooting a 3-under and 4-under, respectively, in round two. Kansas State's Paige Nelson is a shot behind them at 5-under and Arizona's Haley Moore sits one shot behind Nelson at 4-under to round out the top five.
