Women's Tennis Aces Academic Awards

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis squad has again earned the designation of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team while an impressive five individuals were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes for 2017.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any school that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Head Coach Kevin Cory's program has reached that milestone an eye-popping 14 of the last 16 seasons.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Earning that standing this year was senior Carol Yang, junior Mercedes Lopez, sophomores Jovana Kenic and Aiwen Zhu and freshman En-Pei Huang.

The quintet was earlier announced as part of seven UNLV women's players earning 2017 Academic All-Mountain West honors. Three of those same players â€" Kenic, Yang and Zhu -- also earned the designation of Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, which goes to those with a cumulative GPA or 3.5 or better.
