MALIBU, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's tennis standout Alexandr Cozbinov lost both of his matches during Thursday's opening day at the 2017 Oracle ITA Masters hosted by Pepperdine University.

In singles, Cozbinov fell to ninth-ranked William Bushamuka of Kentucky, 6-2, 6-3, in the first round. The UNLV senior will move into the consolation bracket and take on Razvan Grigorescu of Nebraska-Omaha, Friday.

In mixed doubles, Cozbinov and partner Claudia Herrero Garcia of Nevada, Reno, lost their first round matchup, 6-2, to Kaitlyn McCarthy of Duke and Tanner Smith of USC.

Now in its third year of existence, the Oracle ITA Masters will be hosted by Pepperdine University and the Malibu Racquet Club. The event features 32 singles competitors per gender with Cozbinov representing the men's program from the Mountain West.
