LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's Olle Thestrup won twice Tuesday to advance in singles play at the 2018 ITA Mountain Region Men's Championships being held at the Darling Tennis Center.
 
Thestrup, a senior transfer from Auburn, opened main draw action by upsetting sixth-seeded Mattia Ros of Denver in a marathon match, 6-7, 7-5, 7-5, before downing New Mexico's Karlo Divkovic, 6-3, 6-3. Thestrup will now play in Wednesday's Round of 16 vs. New Mexico State's Louis Menard at 10 a.m.  
 
Thestrup is also still alive in doubles play as he and partner Jordan­ Sauer eased by Jonathan Morales and Juan Erro of Southern Utah, 8-3. Joining them in the Round of 16 from UNLV is Eric Samuelsson and Clayton Alenik, who doubled up David Felix and Fynn Lohse of Idaho State, 8-4.
 
More than 80 players from 17 western teams are competing here this week. Each day's action begins with doubles play at 9:00 a.m. PT. The finals are set for Friday on center court starting with doubles at 11 am. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
 
The ITA Regional Championships feature more than 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA Regional Championships around the country. In Division I, regional doubles champions and regional singles champions and finalists qualify for the season-ending Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona.
