LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV women's soccer will wrap up its regular season slate Friday against in-state rival in the newly named Silver State Cup presented by Nevada Donor Network and Laborers Union, which replaces the Governor's Series competition between the two Nevada schools. The Rebels and Wolf Pack will kick off at 6:30 p.m. at Mackay Stadium in Reno. The scoring system for the Silver State Cup will remain the same, with the winner tallying three points towards the school's total for the year.
Not only is it an important match for the bragging rights between the two schools, but its also a big game for UNLV's postseason hopes. Sunday's 2-1 overtime loss at Wyoming dropped the Rebels into a tie for seventh in the MW standings, with the top six teams advancing to the conference tournament. Unfortunately UNLV doesn't completely control its own destiny, but will need a win against the Wolf Pack to stay in contention. Several scenarios exist in which the Rebels get in, but it will depend on the results of the other rivalry games in the conference on Friday. If the Rebels advance, they will play in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday in San Jose, California.
UNLV (10-6-3, 4-4-2) at UNR (4-12-2, 1-9-0)
