LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -Â UNLV women's soccer freshman
Taylor Clark has been tabbed a 2018 Mountain West All-Newcomer team selection, the conference office announced in its annual postseason awards release Monday afternoon. Clark becomes the third Rebel to earn the honor since the league introduced an all-newcomer team prior to the 2016 season, joining juniors
Georgia Kingman and
Paige Almendariz, who were selected after their freshman campaigns that year.
"Taylor had a great season and played a lot of minutes as a freshman," said head coach
Chris Shaw. "Her award is well deserved and we look forward to bigger things from her down the road."
The local product out of Clark High School came to UNLV as a midfielder, but was switched to defense and quickly earned a starting role on the defensive back line. Clark played in all 20 contests in 2018, making 14 starts in her first season as a Rebel. From her defensive position, she managed four shots, including two on goal.
This is the first conference honor of any kind for Clark.
UNLV finished the 2018 season 11-6-3 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play. For the second straight year, the Rebels ended the season in a tie for sixth in the conference standings, but just missed out on a Mountain West Tournament bid due to head-to-head tiebreaker rules. The Scarlet and Gray will have a majority of the team returning after graduating just four seniors -
Amanda Galbraith,
Caitlyn Kreutz,
Kaila Brinkman and Bella Myers - but it will be a challenging task as those four were key members of the program during their careers.Â
