Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second day in a row the UNLV women's tennis team allowed its opponent to open the match by winning the doubles point and for the second day in a row it cost the Rebels an overall victory as they fell 4-2 Saturday to Gonzaga.

Playing a neutral-site affair on the campus of Arizona State, UNLV saw its record drop to 3-3 while the Bulldogs improved to 2-1.

While the Rebels were leading at the top court, Gonzaga grabbed the momentum by taking the first two completed doubles matches.

Moving to singles, UNLV tied it with a win at the bottom of the lineup but eventually fell behind 3-2 with two matches remaining. The Rebels were a few points from victory in one of those must-haves but lost the other in three sets on court four to end things.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: Sophomore En-Pei Huang was headed to victory in doubles play before her match was halted but then was able to hold off Nevada Apollo 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 at the third singles position to give her team its second point.

QUOTABLE: "We lost another close one today and Gonzaga really came out ready to play. We are looking forward to getting back home after two straight tough weekends traveling."

-UNLV head coach Kevin Cory

NET NOTES: Aiwen Zhu nearly suffered her first loss of 2018 at the No. 1 spot in singles but rallied to win a second-set tiebreaker against Sophie Whittle and was leading 5-2 in the third set before it was halted. The junior remains 5-0 this season and 15-1 all-time at that position.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: After four straight matches away from home, UNLV returns to stage a doubleheader Saturday vs. Youngstown State starting at 10 a.m. and then UC Riverside at 2 p.m. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
