LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - With the regular season in the rearview mirror, UNLV women's golf will turn its attention to the 2018 Mountain West Championship, which will take place this week, April 16-18, at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. The three-day tournament will feature one round per day, with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. each morning.
The Rebels have won the last two Mountain West titles and will be looking to win three straight for the first time since the program did it from 2004-06. UNLV is the top-ranked team in the league heading into the tournament, which will give them the opportunity to tee off in the first group Monday morning.
The regular season was a successful one for the Scarlet & Gray as they tallied three team tournaments wins - one in the fall and two in the spring. All three victories took place in Las Vegas, with the Rebels winning its two home tournaments - October's Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown and February's Rebel Beach Invitational. While the third tournament, the Jackrabbit Invitational, was hosted by South Dakota State, it did take place at Boulder Creek Golf Club, which the Rebels practice and play at frequently. They won that invitational by a staggering 53-strokes, while senior
Mackenzie Raim finished atop the individual leaderboard to earn her third career medalist honor.
Individually, UNLV has three of the top six scoring averages in the conference, led by freshman
Polly Mack, who has had a stellar first collegiate campaign. Junior
Elizabeth Prior and sophomore
Nastasia Kossacky have also had solid years as they sit third and sixth overall in the league.
If the Rebels are able to win their third consecutive MW title, they would be just the second team in conference history to win three straight two separate times. It would also mark their seventh championship overall and guarantee UNLV's 16th straight NCAA regional appearance.
MOUNTAIN WEST RANKINGS:The No. 35/41 Rebels will enter the Championships as the top seed in the conference after leading the league with an adjusted scoring average of 73.77 during the regular season.
