BOISE, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - The top-seeded UNLV women's tennis team needed under two hours to advance to the semifinals of the Mountain West Championship with a 4-0 victory over ninth-seeded New Mexico Friday at the Appleton Tennis Center.

The regular-season division champion Rebels improved to 15-5 overall and 6-0 against MW opponents in 2018. The Lobos ended their season at 10-11 overall.

The Rebels dominated doubles play to start things, winning 6-2 on court one and three to clinch it.

Moving to singles, UNLV lost two of six first sets but notched a trio of straight-setters to end it. MW Player of the Year Aiwen Zhu, ranked 69th, had to rally in her first set but eventually finished off Diana Wong 7-5, 6-0 at the top of the lineup. MW Co-Freshman of the Year Izumi Asano and junior Anna Bogoslavets also won their singles matches to help the Rebels clinch.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: Asano teamed with Samantha Li to win at No. 3 doubles and then was the first one off the courts in singles with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Yue Lin Chen at the second spot in the lineup.

NET NOTES: UNLV extended its winning streak to six matches overall and has now reached at least the semifinals of the conference postseason event for the 17th time in the league's 19 years of existence.

QUOTABLE: "We started out very strong in doubles and felt like we handled the big points well today. New Mexico is a good team and fights hard so it is nice to get the W and move into the semifinals."

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will face fifth-seeded Wyoming, which upset San Diego State Friday, starting at noon in Saturday's semifinal round. The Rebels improved to 6-0 against the Cowgirls in MW Championship history with last year's epic 4-3 win in the semifinals held in Las Vegas. Wyoming won the doubles point and eventually tied the match at 3 before Jovana Kenic rallied for a three-set, match-clinching victory that marked Cory's 300th with the program.
