2018 NCAA West Preliminary: Schedule | Entries | Results

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field's Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete ran a personal-best time of 2:01.14 to earn a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in two weeks (June 6-9). Wilson-Perteete's time was second only to Oregon's Sabrina Southerland's 2:00.72 at the NCAA West Preliminary at Sacramento State's Hornet Stadium. Additionally, those two times are the fastest by NCAA student-athletes this season.

Southerland and Wilson-Perteete entered the meet with the second- and fifth-fastest times in not only the West Region, but also in the NCAA.

Wilson-Perteete's teammate Jasmyne Graham clocked a time of 13.45, the 16th-fastest time, in the first round of 100m hurdles to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals at 7:20 pm. Graham will also run a leg of the 4x100m relay alongside Najia Hudspeth, Kaysha Love and Destiny Smith-Barnett at 6:15 pm.

Love, Wilson-Perteete and the Hudspeth twins (Najia and Nylia) will close out UNLV's participation at the West Preliminary with the 4x400m relay at 9:45 pm.

The West Preliminary serves as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Each individual event will have 48 participants, while the relays will consist of 24 teams, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.
