Wilson-Perteete Advances To Saturday's 800m Final

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV track & field's Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete clocked the second-fastest time in the first round of the 800m Friday to advance to Saturday's event final at the US Junior Outdoor Championships, which are being held at Indiana University's Robert C. Haugh Complex.

The two fastest times came out of heat two with Texas A&M's Samantha Watson running 2:08.31 to Wilson-Perteete's 2:08.63. Delving deeper, four of the six fastest times in the first round come out of heat two.

Saturday's finale will take place at 6:20 pm ET (3:20 pm PT).

The US Junior meet serves as the selection event for Team USATF for the IAAF U20 World Championships in Finland next month.

REBEL NOTES:
- Wilson-Perteete was a two-time USTFCCCA Second Team All-American in the 800m (indoor and outdoor) this year.
- Wilson-Perteete helped the 4x400m relay to USTFCCCA All-American Honorable Mention status at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
- Wilson-Perteete earned Mountain West All-Conference Team status for the 800m as well as for her efforts on UNLV's 4x400m relay team during the indoor and outdoor seasons.
- Wilson-Perteete owns the second-fastest time clocked by a collegian during NCAA competition this year with a 2:01.14 notched at the NCAA West Preliminary. The time is the best by a Mountain West student-athlete in conference history, and it ranks second in UNLV's all-time performance list. It is also the ninth best posted by a USA Jr.
