UNLV Game Notes
♦ UNLV is hoping for a fresh start after an injury-plagued first two months, combined with a challenging schedule, led to a 2-9 record for the non-conference slate.
♦ The Lady Rebels did end December on a high note after taking down Florida 56-53 in Las Vegas right before the Christmas break.
♦ UNLV will now open defense of its regular season title from a year ago by playing back-to-back games on the road, starting with Wednesday night's tilt at Colorado State.
♦ The Lady Rebels won the only meeting between the teams last year in Las Vegas by a 56-52 margin. That snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Rams. ♦ UNLV's last win in Fort Collins was Feb. 9, 2008, by a 76-68 score. The Lady Rebels have since lost in their last eight contests on the Rams' home court.
♦ Wednesday's game could be a low scoring contest, as the two teams rank 10th and 11th in the league in points per game. CSU does come in leading the MW in scoring defense at 55.6 pg.
♦ UNLV looks to have the advantage on the boards, as despite its injuries to the front court, the Lady Rebels own a +1.6 rebound margin, while CSU has been outrebounded by a -4.7 margin.
♦ The Lady Rebels played the month of December without two of its top three returning players from a year ago, as leading scorer and rebounder Katie Powell (Dec. 1) has joined Paris Strawther on the injured list. Powell and Strawther were UNLV's starting frontcourt players as well.Â
