Rebels To Compete In Austin This Weekend

Betsy Rawls Invitational will be played Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 12-13 at University of Texas Golf Club.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team will be back in action Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 12-13, at the Betsy Rawls Invitational, hosted by Texas and played at the UT Golf Club (par 72, 6,491 yards) in Austin.

THE FIELD: The tournament features 15 teams: Baylor, Colorado, Denver, Kent State, Maryland, Miami, New Mexico, North Texas, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas State, UNLV and Yale.

THE FORMAT: The two-day, 54-hole stroke-play event will consist of two rounds totaling 36 holes on Saturday and a final round of 18 holes on Sunday. Teams will play five players with the low four scores each day counted for the team total.

THE LINEUP: Competing for UNLV will be junior Samantha Fuller, sophomore Veronica Joels, freshman Elina Saksa, junior Cathy Liu and freshman Dana Puyol.

LAST TIME OUT: This will be UNLV's second tournament of the fall season. In its first outing, the Rebels finished 12th at the Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Individually, UNLV was led by freshman Serena Sepersky, who placed tied for 32nd at 5-over par.

LAST YEAR'S BETSY RAWLS INVITE: Texas won last year's event by seven shots at 10-under par with the Longhorns' Hailee Cooper earning medalist honors by four shots at 9-under. UNLV was not in last year's event.

NOTABLE:
• UNLV has a new look with just three returners from last year's roster. Six new faces have joined the 2019-20 squad.
• Prior to the 2018-19 season, UNLV had won three straight Mountain West titles and made a NCAA postseason appearance in 16 consecutive years.
• Head coach Amy Bush-Herzer is in her ninth year at the helm of the program. She has led her team to a conference championship four times.
