LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV senior linebacker Javin White has been named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
White finished with seven total tackles, including 2.5 tackles-for-loss, and forced two key turnovers to help UNLV stun Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon, 34-10, in Nashville. The win was the program's first on the road vs. an SEC team and represented the fewest points allowed by a Rebel team in an away game since 2003.
White hauled in his eighth career pick in the third quarter and returned it 44 yards to set up a UNLV field goal. Just a few minutes later, he and teammate Rayshad Jackson combined to sack a Commodore quarterback and force a fumble that was recovered by Nate Neal and eventually converted into a touchdown.
One of four 2019 team captains, White is a native of Oakland, California, and graduate of McClymonds High School. He also earned the league's award last November after grabbing two interceptions in UNLV's season-capping win over UNR.
The Rebels next travel to play Fresno State this Friday starting at 7 p.m. PT. UNLV's next home game is October 26 vs. San Diego State at 7:30 p.m. at Sam Boyd Stadium. Tickets are available now by calling (702) 739-FANS or visiting unlvtickets.com.
