Rebels Tied For 10th After Jim West Challenge's First Day

Cathy Liu leads UNLV women's golf at 4-under at one of nation's premier college golf tournaments.

SAN MARCOS, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team shot rounds of 5-under-par 283 and 2-under 286 Sunday during the first day of the Jim West Challenge, which is being hosted by Texas State at the Kissing Tree Golf Club (par 72, 6,033 yards).

Texas Tech and No. 15 Ole Miss are tied for the team lead at 24-under, while Miami is third at 16-under. Oklahoma and Texas State are tied for fourth at 15-under. The Rebels are tied for 10th with a 36-hole total of 7-under 569.

Individually, there is a four-way tie for the lead at 8-under between Texas Tech's Amy Taylor, Ole Miss' Julia Johnson, Texas Tech's Gala Dumez and Oklahoma's Kaitlin Milligan. There are another four players tied for fifth, one shot back at 70-under.

UNLV junior Cathy Liu led the Rebels and is tied for 21st at 4-under.

STAT OF THE DAY: Ole Miss set a tournament record for round vs. par at 19-under and tied the tournament record for lowest round with a 269 (first round).

REBEL OF THE DAY: Liu had UNLV's lowest round of the day with a 3-under 69 during the first round, which was made up of three birdies and two bogeys.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: The tournament's final round will begin Monday at 8:30 a.m. CT.

NOTABLE:
• This is UNLV's third tournament of the fall.
• The Rebels have a new look with just three returners from last year's roster. Six new faces have joined the 2019-20 squad.
• Prior to the 2018-19 season, UNLV had won three straight Mountain West titles and made a NCAA postseason appearance in 16 consecutive years.
• Head coach Amy Bush-Herzer is in her ninth year at the helm of the program. She has led her team to a conference championship four times.
