LIHUE, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 2-over-par 290 on Thursday at the 43rd Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which is being played at Wailua Golf Course (par 72, 6,991 yards).
No. 24 BYU is the team leader at 8-under 280, followed by No. 20 Texas A&M in second at 7-under. No. 11 Arizona State is third at 6-under, Saint Mary's is fourth at 4-under and No. 2 Duke rounds out the top five at 3-under. The Rebels are tied for 12th.
Individually, BYU's Peter Kuest and Washington State's Daniel Kolar are tied for the lead at 6-under 66. Texas A&M's Walker Lee is a shot back in third place at 5-under.

Jack Trent and freshman
David Rauch are both tied for 31st at even-par 72 to lead the Rebels. Each student-athlete had three birdies and three bogeys during the first round.

• This is UNLV's second tournament of the spring season.
• The Rebels are the
three-time defending Mountain West champions.
• Last year's team also finished third at the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and placed in the top 20 at the NCAA Championship.
• Trent earned the Mountain West Freshman of the Year award last season, while Hall and Trent were all recognized as All-MW performers.
• Hall was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in July.
• UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 30 straight regionals.
