Rebels Return To Phoenix For Midweek Game At Arizona State

UNLV baseball closes out home-and-home, nonconference series against the nationally ranked Sun Devils Tuesday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium; Rebels won previous meeting 10-9 in Las Vegas two weeks ago.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV Rebels close out their four-game road trip with a stop in Phoenix Tuesday (6:30 pm) to wrap up their home-and-home series with the nationally ranked Arizona State Sun Devils at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

UNLV and ASU, which enters the week ranked as high as No. 10 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll, squared off two weeks ago in Las Vegas on April 9. In that affair, the Rebels went into the home half of the ninth inning trailing by five runs, 9-4, and strung together six walks, three singles, a balk and a wild pitch to rally for a 10-9 victory over the then-No. 9 Sun Devils.

Both teams enter Tuesday's tussle coming off road trips; the Rebels went 1-2 against intrastate rival UNR in Reno, and the Sun Devils went 2-1 against the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City.

Historically speaking, UNLV and ASU have squared off a total of 84 times with the first meeting taking place in Tempe in 1974. The Sun Devils hold a 63-20-1 overall mark in the series; however, the Rebels have won four straight and six of the last nine contests dating back to 2015. The Scarlet & Gray's four-game winning streak began with a 13-12 triumph in Las Vegas on April 18, 2017, and has continued with a pair of victories in 2018 – 10-3 in Tempe (March 20) and 14-6 in Las Vegas (April 10) – as well as the come-from-behind upset two weeks ago.
