FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The fifth-seeded UNLV men's tennis team ended its season with a 4-1 loss at the hands of fourth-seeded San Diego State in Thursday's quarterfinal round of the Mountain West Tennis Championship, which is being played at the Wathen Tennis Center on the campus of Fresno State.
 
The Rebels finish the year at 13-9 overall while the Aztecs improved to 14-9 with their second win over UNLV in the last six days.
 
SDSU, which has never lost to the Rebels in the annual MW event, opened the action by winning a close doubles point, which proved key to the overall victory. Half of the six singles matches stretched to three sets and UNLV was just a game away from securing its second point when Sander Anderson clinched it with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over Rebel junior Eric Samuelsson at the No. 1 position.
 
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Clayton Alenik finished his sophomore season in style, downing Rafael Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-4, on court six. The Las Vegas native improved his record to 18-6, including an eye-popping 14-1 in dual matches.
 
QUOTABLE: "After an extremely close doubles point we had our hands full in singles and hats off to San Diego State today. However, I could not be more proud of how everyone competed and fought until the end. We have a great young group of players and together with our incoming freshmen, the future is bright for UNLV tennis."
