Rebels Just Three Shots Back After First Round At Mountain West Championship

UNLV men's golf tied for fifth as a team, while senior Harry Hall one shot off the lead in a tie for third individually after 4-under 68.

TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) The UNLV men's golf team shot 6-under-par 282 during the opening round of the Mountain West Championship Friday and is just three shots back in a tie for fifth place. The tournament is being held at OMNI Tucson National's Catalina Course (par 72, 7,194 yards).

New Mexico and Colorado State are tied for the team lead at 9-under 279, while Boise State is third at 8-under, followed by San Diego State in fourth at 7-under. The Rebels are tied with Fresno State at 6-under.

Individually, there is a two-way tie for first between New Mexico's Sean Carlon and Fresno State's Alex Lee at 5-under. UNLV senior Harry Hall is just one shot off the lead in a four-way tie for third at 4-under.

STAT OF THE DAY: Eight of the 11 schools competing were under par during the first round.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Hall's round consisted of six birdies and two bogeys.

• UNLV has won each of the last three Mountain West titles and is seeking its sixth overall.

Last year's team also finished third at the NCAA Regional in Columbus, Ohio, and placed in the top 20 at the NCAA Championship. 
Jack Trent earned the Mountain West Freshman of the Year award last season, while Harry Hall and Trent were both recognized as All-MW performers. 
• Hall was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar last year. 
• UNLV has played in a NCAA-record 30 straight regionals. 
• This year marks head coach Dwaine Knight's 32nd season leading the Rebel program.
