TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round-low 14-under-par 274 Saturday to move up three spots in the standings and into second place at the Mountain West Championship, which is being held at OMNI Tucson National's Catalina Course (par 72, 7,194 yards).
The Rebels, who carded the lowest single-round score by any institution in the MW Championship since they shot 273 in the first round in 2015, are just two shots back of team-leading Colorado State. The Rams have a 36-hole score of 22-under 554 after a second-round 13-under 275. UNLV is 20-under for the tournament. New Mexico is third at 19-under, San Diego State is fourth at 15-under and Fresno State rounds out the top five at 13-under.
Individually, New Mexico's Sean Carlon leads by a shot at 9-under 135 after a second-round 4-under 68. UNM teammate Galven Green is second at 8-under, while there is a two-way tie for third at 7-under between UNLV junior
Justin Kim and Fresno State's Alex Lee.
STAT OF THE DAY: Kim tied a Mountain West Championship record for low round with an 8-under 64. He is only the fifth MW golfer to shoot a 64 in tournament history and the first since UNLV's Derek Ernst in 2011.
REBEL OF THE DAY: Kim's bogey-free round consisted of two eagles and four birdies as he moved up 31 spots in the standings from a tie for 34th to a tie for third.
