Senior Day Celebration Includes Shutout Of UNR

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's tennis team did not allow a team point for the third straight match with a 4-0 blanking of in-state rival UNR in the final home outing of the season Friday at a sunny Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels needed less than two hours to improve to 21-6 overall, 10-2 at home and 3-0 vs. league competition. The Wolf Pack fell to 8-7 and 0-1 in the MW. The match was part of the Silver State Series presented by IBEW and Nevada Donor Network. The three points up for grabs will not be awarded until the Mountain West Tournament later this month when the two teams could meet again.

Before things got going Friday, head coach Kevin Cory honored the team's trio of seniors in a ceremony on Court One and Aiwen Zhu, Anna Bogoslavets and Jovanna Kenic all were part of the starting singles lineup. All three rank in the top 12 of UNLV's career singles winning percentage and have won either a Mountain West regular-season or tournament championship every season on campus.

The hosts started out strong by taking the first two completed doubles matches for a 1-0 lead and then kept rolling in singles, taking the first set on five of six courts. The top half of the lineup would come through first as UNLV posted a quick, three-set victory on courts one, two and three to end it.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: Zhu teamed with En-Pei Huang for a 6-3 win at the top of the lineup to clinch the doubles point and then swept Adriana Gergelyova, 6-3, 6-4, to clinch the overall match in singles play.

NET NOTES: Zhu, ranked 107th in the nation, improved to 25-6 overall and 12-2 in duals. She needs two more victories to become just the sixth UNLV woman to reach 100 career singles wins … Ranked 48th in doubles with partner Huang, Zhu's doubles win moved her all alone into third place all-time at the school with 85.

QUOTABLE: "A great win for the Rebels today. We came out ready to go in doubles and didn't let up. It was nice to send our three seniors out with a win over UNR."
-UNLV Head Coach Kevin Cory

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will travel to California tonight and continue its quest for another regular-season league title when it plays at San Jose State Sunday starting at noon.
