LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball junior
Bryson Stott has been named the Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Wednesday. This is the second time this spring the Las Vegas native has earned the honor.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletic Communications department.
Stott, a local product out of Desert Oasis High School, hit .368 with seven hits, seven runs scored and seven RBI in four games last week, which included leading the Rebels to a 2-1 series win at Air Force last weekend.
The junior tallied four extra-base hits - three doubles and a home run - to help register .684 slugging and .400 on-base percentages. Stott recorded three multi-hit games, two multi-run games and two multi-RBI games on the weekend.
In Tuesday' midweek contest at Grand Canyon, Stott had two hits, one run scored and one RBI, then hit .357 with five hits - four extra-base hits - six runs and six RBI in the series at Air Force. In Sunday's rubber match win, the Rebel standout played a role in five of the team's seven runs, knocking in two in the fifth and adding runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
For his performance he was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
Stott and the Rebels, fresh off of their Tuesday upset over ninth-ranked Arizona State, will be home this weekend, hosting conference foe San Jose State, April 12-14, at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. Series first pitch set for Friday at 6:05 p.m.
