Rebel Duo Advances To Friday's Second Round

UNLV track & field’s Kaysha Love and Avi’Tal Wilson-Perteete qualify for Friday’s portion of the 800m and 100m, respectively.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team's Kaysha Love and Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete qualified for Friday's second round of the 100m and 800m, respectively, after their performances on day one of the NCAA West Preliminary at Hornet Stadium.

Love finished fourth in her heat (No. 2) and ran the 15th fastest time overall in the 100m (11.53) to move on to Friday (6:00 pm).

Wilson-Perteete won her heat (No. 3) in a time of 2:07.51; unfortunately, her teammate Elisa Rovere saw her outdoor season come to an end after she posted a time of 2:11.01 in the fifth heat. Wilson-Perteete returns to the track Friday at 6:30 pm.

Jasmyne Graham, who is also participating in Friday's first round of the 100m hurdles (4:30 pm), was 14th in the long jump (19-11.5/6.08m).

Besides Graham, Love and Wilson-Perteete, the Scarlet & Gray will be represented Friday by Jada Hicks (15th/133.13) and Taylor Pegram (13.16m) in the 100m hurdles. Graham leads the trio in the event, ranking 11th overall (13.07). In all, the Rebel 100m hurdlers ranks No. 4 in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings, trailing only USC, Arkansas and North Carolina A&T.

Mackenna Howard will also compete for UNLV, but must wait until Saturday for the shot put.

The three-day meet, May 23-25, serves as the first and second rounds of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Each individual event will consist of 48 competitors, with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships (June 5-8) in Austin, Texas.

WEST PRELIM SCHEDULE:
- Friday, May 24: First Round 100m Hurdles (4:30 pm); Second Round 100m (6:00 pm) & 800m (6:30 pm)
- Saturday, May 25: Second Round 100m Hurdles (7:05 pm) & First Round Shot Put (5:15 pm)

FAMILIAR TERRITORY: Six of the seven Rebels – minus Hicks – that qualified for this week's NCAA meet in Sacramento have previously competed collegiately at Hornet Stadium. All six took part in the same meet and events last year's NCAA West Preliminary. Additionally, UNLV took part in Sacramento State's Mondo Team Challenge earlier in the 2018 outdoor campaign.

Wilson-Perteete ran a time of 2:01.14 in the 800m at last year's NCAA West Preliminary and it was the second-fastest clocked by an NCAA DI student-athlete in 2018. Moreover, the time was not only a personal best, but it was also second in UNLV's all-time performance records.
