Stott Named A Finalist For Brooks Wallace Award

UNLV junior is one of five vying for annual award that recognizes the nation’s top collegiate shortstop.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball's Bryson Stott is one of five finalists vying for the Brooks Wallace Award, which recognizes the nation's top collegiate shortstop.

The award, sponsored by Mizuno, will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation. It is named in honor of former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977-80, and died of leukemia at the age of 27.

Stott concluded the 2019 campaign ranked in the top 100 of 11 different NCAA statistical categories, including No. 14 in base on balls (55), 22nd in runs (.486), 30th in on-base percentage (.486), 35th in doubles (20), 51st in hits (79) and 59th in total bases (133). Besides leading the Rebels in each of the aforementioned categories – save for hits, he paced the squad in batting average (.356), slugging percentage (.599) and stolen bases (16). Additionally, he shared the top spot in home runs (10) and triples (two).

The junior from Las Vegas has also produced 28 multiple-hit, 20 multiple-run and 12 multiple-RBI games, all of which were team highs. Stott also played a key role in seven Rebel victories this season, registering the game-winning RBI three times and scoring the game-winning run in four more.

Recently, the Desert Oasis High School graduate was named the Mountain West's Tony Gwynn Co-Player of the Year and was selected to the MW's All-Conference First Team. He was also tabbed a semifinalist for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award.
