LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV women's soccer standout forward Denali Murnan can call herself a national champion as her team S.C. Braga recently captured the national title in Portugal for the first time in club history. Murnan, who played for the Rebels from 2011-15, has spent multiple seasons playing overseas since her collegiate career ended.
"Winning my first professional league title is an experience hard to put into words," said Murnan. "The countless hours of training, film session, meetings and traveling and the unwavering dedication and discipline that my teammates, the staff and I poured into our goal of winning the league have paid off. I"m so proud to be part of the this club. Next stop, Champions League!"
S.C. Braga is based in the city of Braga, Portugal. Murnan is listed a midfielder for the team and is one of three Americans on the squad. S.C. Braga won the league, which features 12 teams around Portugal, to qualify for the UEFA Women's Champions League, which is a tournament involving the top club teams from countries affiliated with the European governing body UEFA.
While at UNLV, Murnan was a two-time Mountain West All-Conference Second Team selection. She is currently 10th on the all-time points list with 43 career points and tied for eighth all-time in both career goals (15) and assists (13).
UNLV's current squad wrapped up its spring season on a high note, beating the Argentina National Team 1-0 at Peter Johann Field in an exhibition match in April. The Rebels' 2019 fall schedule will be released in the next few weeks.
