LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Former UNLV baseball shortstop
Bryson Stott was one of four members of the Williamsport Crosscutters selected to play in Wednesday's New York-Penn League All-Star Game in Staten Island, N.Y. Stott will suit up for the Blue Team alongside fellow teammates Logan O'Hoppe, Kendall Simmons and Corbin Williams as well as members from the Brooklyn Cyclones, Mahoning Valley Scrappers, Lowell Spinners, Batavia Muckdogs, Tri-City ValleyCats and West Virginia Power.
The Las Vegas native was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies with the 14th overall pick in the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft. Stott began his professional career playing four games with Phillies East in the Gulf Coast League. He was promoted in mid-July to the Crosscutters, a Class A Short Season affiliate of the Phillies, and has batted .298 with 34 hits, 20 runs scored and 19 RBI in 32 games. He's registered a .509 slugging percentage with the help of 12 extra base hits (five home runs, five doubles and two triples).
The Desert Oasis High School graduate just had a season-best nine-game hitting streak snapped Sunday against West Virginia. During the run, he had eight multiple-hit games, collecting two hits in each contest. In all, he hit .486 (17-for-35) with three homers, three doubles and one triple, and added nine RBI and seven runs.
Last week, Stott was named the Phillies Minor League Defender of the Month for July. In a span 16 games (all starts) between Williamsport and GCL Phillies East, he did not commit an error in a total of 51 chances.
Stott concluded his junior season and collegiate career in May after he was tabbed the Mountain West's Tony Gwynn Co-Player of the Year and was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award and a semifinalist for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award. He earned All-America honors four times over being recognized by Perfect Game (second team), ABCA (third team), Baseball America (third team) and Collegiate Baseball (third team).
He led the Rebels in nearly every offensive category, such as: batting average (.356), slugging percentage (.599), on-base percentage (.486), doubles (20), homers (10), runs (65), walks (55) and total bases (133).
