LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - In partnership with the Folds Of Honor Military Tribute Program, UNLV women's golf is dedicating its 2019-20 season to Eric W. Morris, a Sparks, Nevada, native and a former United States Army Sergeant.

Morris was killed on April 28, 2005, due to injuries sustained when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV during reconnaissance patrol operations in Baghdad, Iraq.

The Rebels will honor Morris, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, through the Folds of Honor program and will raise money throughout the season in support of college expenses for his step-daughter, Chyan. She is currently a sophomore studying nursing at Truckee Meadows Community College.

At each of their tournaments this season, the Rebels will carry a golf bag with Morris' name and branch of service along with a story card that provides background information on the Nevadan.



"The Folds of Honor Military Tribute Program is a wonderful opportunity for our program to honor Sgt. Morris, a proud lifetime Nevadan," said head coach Amy Bush-Herzer. "Through service to our country and by paying the ultimate sacrifice in preserving our freedoms, Sgt. Morris reminds each of us that freedom is not free. We would like to thank Sgt. Morris' step-daughter, Chyan, for allowing us to honor him throughout the 2019-20 season. Carrying his bag at each of our tournaments will certainly be an honor for our student-athletes and provide all of us with an opportunity to share his story."



FOLDS OF HONOR MILITARY TRIBUTE PROGRAM – Sgt. Eric W. Morris
A Sparks, Nevada native, Army Sergeant Morris was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington. On April 28, 2005, while on his second tour of duty to Iraq, Sgt. Morris (age 31) and three other soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near their Stryker military vehicle in Tal Afar. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal.
