NAPA VALLEY, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - A contingent from the UNLV men's tennis team successfully opened its fall tournament slate Friday at the College Tennis Invitational at Silverado Resort and Spa.
The Rebels split two doubles matches vs. teams from the University of San Francisco, including rookies
Anton Ornberg and
Jackson Atherton teaming up for an 8-3 win over Mitch Johnson and David Woodland.
Facing the University of Pacific in singles play, UNLV posted wins at three of four positions:
Tom Ciszewski downed Coby McCaig, 6-3, 6-4; Ornberg won his collegiate singles debut, 6-3, 6-4 over John Garner; and Atherton did the same with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Nathan Hampton.
The tournament runs through Sunday and also includes players from San Diego State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Buffalo and Hawai'i.
