Rebel Alum Makes MLB Pipeline's Prospects List

Bryson Stott, the 14th selection by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft, is ranked 87th overall.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball alum and Las Vegas native Bryson Stott made MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list for the 2020 season. Stott, who was selected 14th overall in the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft, was No. 87 and one of three Philadelphia Phillies representatives.

The former Rebel shortstop is joined by No. 30 Alec Bohm (3B/1B: 2018 Draft - 1st Round/3rd Overall) and No. 34 Spencer Howard (RHP: 2017 Draft - 2nd Round/45th Overall).

Stott concluded his first professional season hitting .295 with 49 hits in a total of 48 games playing for the GCL Phillies East and Williamsport Crosscutters of the Gulf Coast League and New York-Penn League, respectively. Moreover, he registered .494 slugging and .391 on-base percentages backed by 18 extra-base hits (nine doubles, six home runs and three triples) and 24 walks.

While playing for the Crosscutters, Stott earned the Phillies Minor League Defender of the Month for July and was chosen to play in the NYPL's All-Star Game, which was held in Staten Island, New York in August.

Following his junior campaign, the Desert Oasis High School graduate was named the Mountain West's Tony Gwynn Co-Player of the Year. Additionally, Stott was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award and a semifinalist for USA Baseball's Golden Spikes Award. He earned All-America honors four times over with Perfect Game (second team), ABCA (third), Baseball America (third) and Collegiate Baseball (third) recognizing his play for the Scarlet & Gray.

Statistically speaking, Stott led the 2019 Rebels in nearly offensive category: batting average (.356), slugging percentage (.599), on-base percentage (.486), doubles (20), home runs (10), runs (65), walks (55) and total bases (133).

REBELS IN THE PROS: UNLV Baseball had a total of 20 alums playing professionally during the 2019 season, including World Series champion Erick Fedde, who was the 18th overall pick in 2014, with the Washington Nationals. Besides Fedde, there were 15 Rebels suiting up for minor league teams, two for independent squads and two more with international clubs.

The Rebels kick off the 2020 campaign with a four-game series against the Central Michigan Chippewas (Feb. 14-16) in what is being billed as "First Pitch Weekend Powered by Marucci." The run continues with three three-game series versus Alabama (Feb. 21-23), Creighton (Feb. 28-March 1) and St. John's (March 6-8) and two against Houston (March 10-11).

He was drafted 60th overall in the 1999 MLB First Year Draft by the Oakland Athletics and played for a total of six squads, including the Texas Rangers who he made his professional debut with in 2002. While playing for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2008, Ludwick was named to the National League's All-Star Team and would go on to win the Silver Slugger Award that same year.
