LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track & field sprinter
Kaysha Love has been selected by USA Bobsled and Skeleton to attend a 12-day push camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Love will travel to the Empire State and quarantine prior to the start of the camp, which begins Nov. 1 and runs through Nov. 12.
The purpose of the camp is to help the USA Bobsled coaching staff identify athletes that could make an immediate impact on the national team with the chance of making the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Team.
"I'm beyond grateful for this opportunity to chase, or in this case, push to my Olympic dreams," exclaimed Love. "I can't express how thankful I am to have such an amazing support system of family, friends, coaches, and teammates. I look forward to the day I can represent my family and share these rare experiences with all of you. Thanks again for the love and support."
The native of Herriman, Utah, was initially contacted about six months ago by a member of the USA Bobsled Team to see if she had any interest in trying out. After some discussion, Love was asked by one of the squad's coaches to participate in a virtual combine, which turned into an opportunity to attend November's push camp.
While at UNLV, Love has helped the Rebels to a pair of Mountain West Indoor championships in 2018 and 2020. Individually, she has earned All-MW Team accolades twice as an individual and six times as a member of a relay team, which includes one 4x100m relay title (2018 Indoor) and four runner-up finishes. She has also claimed USTFCCCA Second Team All-America honors as a member of the 4x100m relay in both 2017 and 2018.
"We are so very proud of Kaysha for getting this opportunity," said UNLV track & field head coach
Yvonne Wade. "She has been and continues to be a leader on our team and we will see great things from her. We will miss her for a couple of months, but she will be back to finish her last season of outdoor track, but in the meantime, we encourage her to reach for the stars."
