ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Track & Field juniors
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete and
Elisa Rovere placed their names into the program's all-time indoor performance list for the 600m following their races at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic Friday. Wilson-Perteete and Rovere finished first and fifth overall, respectively, in the event and, coincidentally, moved into those same spots in the record book, as well.
Wilson-Perteete clocked a personal-best time of 1:29.37 to move past Rebel alum Auzsane Crowe-Carter's time of 1:31.45 that was recorded during the 2016 indoor campaign. Ironically, it was at this same site – the Albuquerque Convention Center – where Wilson-Perteete ran a program-best 800m time of 2:04.71 at the 2018 Mountain West Indoor Championships.
To date, Wilson-Perteete's 600m time is fourth in the world.
Rovere ran a personal-best time of 1:33.11 to move into fifth past Nickeisha Charles (1:33.70 in 2002) and Sonya Briscoe (1:35.00 from 1983).
UNLV also got strong showings from
Jonon Young in the long jump (fourth in 19-7/5.97m – a personal best),
Kaysha Love in the 200m (23.98), and
Jartierra Grissom in the high jump (sixth in 5-5.25/1.66m)
600M NOTES: With Wilson-Perteete and Rovere moving into the top five of the program's indoor 600m Friday, the remaining three spots are owned by Crowe-Carter in second, Mandy Chitwood in third (1:31.64 in 2017) and Christine Lowe in fourth (1:32.11 in 2012)
NEXT UP: Day two of the NMCC starts early Saturday at 9:00 am PT (10:00 am MT) with the qualifying round of the 60m. The triple jump, mile, 400m and 60m hurdles are also scheduled for day two.
