Rebels Wire-To-Wire Winners In Tulsa, Freshman Sydney Bryan Earns Co-Medalist Honors

UNLV wins tournament by 11 strokes, Bryan birdies final hole to earn first collegiate victory

TULSA, OK (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team completed its wire-to-wire victory at the Dale McNamara Invitational at the Golf Club of Oklahoma Tuesday, finishing as the only team under par for the tournament to take home the team title. The Rebels shot rounds of 289, 287 and 285 to card a three-round score of 3-under 861.

UNLV swept both the team and individual competitions as freshman Sydney Bryan birdied her final hole of the event to get to 4-under and earn co-medalist honors for her first career collegiate win. Bryan sank 10 birdies total over the three rounds, including four in the last round against just one bogey.

Head coach Amy Bush-Herzer, who is in her 11th season at the helm, was proud of what she saw from her young squad in Tulsa.

"Our team worked really well together this week," said Bush-Herzer. "We had senior leadership helping our newcomers. They were cheering for each other and pushing each other to be their best."

The Rebels held an 11-shot lead after second round play was suspended late Monday due to darkness and that's where the margin would stay by Tuesday's end as UNLV bested second-place Nebraska, who finished at 8-over 872. It is the first tournament win for UNLV since the Rebels won their home tournament, the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in October of 2019. It was also the largest margin of victory for the Scarlet and Gray since 2017, when they captured the team title, also at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, by 10 strokes.

Bryan was one of three Rebels to finish in the top six as junior transfer Nicole Lorup tied for fourth at 2-under 214 and fellow freshman Kendall Todd tied for sixth at 1-under 215. Bryan started Tuesday at 2-under with the final few holes of the second round left to complete, finishing with a 1-over 73 before saving her best round for last - a 3-under 69 - to tie for first in just her second ever collegiate event. Lorup turned in a final round of 2-under 70 to move into the top four, while Todd - who led all individuals at the end of Monday - shot a 2-over 74, but still nabbed her highest finish through three tournaments in her first fall. Checking in after Todd was senior Veronica Joels, who finished in a tie for 23rd at 6-over 222, followed by freshman Hina Matsui in a tie for 31st after carding a 9-over 225.

Rounding out the team competition behind UNLV and Nebraska was Fresno State in third at 18-over, Sam Houston in fourth at 19-over and BYU in fifth at 22-over. Oklahoma State's Hailey Jones was the co-medalist with Bryan, while BYU's Lila Galeai took third at 3-under. BYU also saw Annick Haczkiewicz tie for fourth with Lorup at 2-under, followed by Todd and Nebraska's Vanessa Bouvet and Megan Whittaker tied for sixth at 1-under.

UP NEXT: The Rebels have a short turnaround before their next event as they will head to San Marcos, Texas this weekend to play in Texas State's Jim West Invitational on Sunday, October 17 and Monday, October 18. The tournament will be live streamed through Texas State. Stay tuned for more information on tee times and links.
