LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV volleyball redshirt sophomore Jordyn Freeman was named the Raising Cane's Outstanding Rebel of the Week, the school announced Thursday.
The award goes to the student-athlete who turned in the best individual performance during the previous week of competition from Monday through Sunday as voted on by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications department.
A middle blocker from San Diego, California, Freeman provided stingy defense to help the Rebels move past New Mexico State (Dec. 3) and host Arizona (Dec. 4) in the first and second rounds, respectively, of the National Invitational Volleyball Championships (NIVC). She turned in a combined 14 blocks to go along with 17.5 points and 10 kills in the Scarlet and Gray's sweep of the Aggies and five-set win over the Wildcats.
Freeman's dominance at the net during the pair of NIVC contests catapulted her into the program's single-season record book at fourth in total blocks (147) and fifth in assisted blocks (133). Additionally, she leads the Mountain West and ranks ninth nationally in total blocks.
