LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The Rebel track & field team opened its 2021 outdoor campaign with seven event wins at the UNLV Winter Challenge Saturday. The Scarlet & Gray notched four victories on the track and three more in field events. In all, UNLV compiled 31 top-four finishes in the one-day meet, which was held at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field, and featured Northern Arizona, Utah and Utah Valley.
The Rebels got six of their wins from
Cassondra Hall in the 60m (7.46),
Azaria Hill in the 200m (25.25),
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete in the 800m (2:10.53) and
Taylor Shorter in the 60m hurdles (8.45) as well as
Jartierra Grissom in the high jump (5-1.75/1.57m) and
Cassidy Osborne-Butler in the hammer throw (181-0/55.16m).
Tenia Landrum and
Jaylen Walker finished 1-2 in the long jump, with both recording outdoor personal-best distances of 19-0.5 (5.80m) and 18-2.5 (5.55m), respectively.
In addition to her 200m win, Hill took third in the 60m (7.60) to give UNLV the top-3 finishers in the event, as Nami Wilson was second (7.59).
UNLV also had three more participants finish second or third, as
Rosalie Breems was second in the 60m hurdles (8.61), Gabrielle Palmer was second in the pole vault (13-4.25/3.20m) and
Elisa Rovere was third in the 800m (2:14.45).
WINDY CONDITIONS: Due to heavy winds, the triple jump and discus throw were not completed and the 4x400m relay was canceled.
UP NEXT: UNLV will head back to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the second time to participate in Air Force's two-day indoor Championships at the Peak on Feb. 26-27. The Rebels next outdoor meet will take place at home on March 6.
