DENVER (UNLVRebels.com) – The short-handed UNLV men's tennis team dropped a second straight road match, this time 5-2 at the hands of host Denver on Sunday at Denver Tennis Park.
Playing indoors and without the services of top player
Alex Kobelt, the Rebels fell to 3-4 while the Pioneers improved to 3-2.
UNLV took a 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles matches. DU, however, eventually took a 3-2 lead in singles and then rallied to barely claim three-set wins on courts three and five to close it out.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Eric Samuelsson, playing at the top spot in place of
Alex Kobelt, notched his team's lone singles victory with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Mattias Ros.
QUOTABLE: "It was a tough loss today against a solid Denver team. Our doubles effort was great and we were in position to squeak the match out in singles. Milos and Clay battled hard but came up just short. There were definitely some teachable moments today that will serve us well moving forward."
-UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook
NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV is off until hosting Pepperdine on Feb. 28.
