LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team returns to the Centennial State this week for Air Force's Championships at the Peak in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The three-day meet began Thursday; however, the Rebels are only participating in Friday and Saturday's portion of the event, which is being contested at the Cadet Field House.
The Championships is comprised of squads from conferences that are not sponsoring indoor championship meets this year, with representation from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Big Sky, MPSF (indoor home of the Pac-12) and WAC. The women's portion of the meet will feature No. 5 USC, No. 8 BYU, No. 9 Oregon, No. 18 Colorado and No. 25 Arizona as well as eight MW teams, three from the American, two from the Big Sky, one from the WAC and two from the MPSF (Pac-12).
The Scarlet & Gray has four student-athletes that sit atop five MW event standings entered in the meet, led by
Jazlynn Shearer who is first in both the 60m hurdles (8.33) and triple jump (42-7.5/12.99m). The three others are conference leaders Nami Wilson in the 60m (7.45),
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete in the 800m (2:10.92), and
Jonon Young (20-3/6.17m) in the long jump.
Additionally, Shearer and Young are second overall in the long jump (19-1.5/5.83m) and triple jump (41-9.75/12.74m), respectively.
Azaria Hill comes third in both the 60m (7.57) and 200m (25.14), while
Elisa Rovere (800m/2:14.14) and
Taylor Shorter (60m hurdles/8.63) are third in their respective events.
The Rebels will also have
Rosalie Breems,
Jartierra Grissom, Amari Prude,
Tianna Randle,
Alexis Surrell,
Emma Wahlenmaier and
Jaylen Walker competing Friday and Saturday.
Friday's action begins at 12:30 pm MT (11:30 am PT) for UNLV with the women's long jump, while the track portion starts 10 minutes later (12:40 pm MT/11:40 pm PT) with the 60m.
