LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - After a strong performance at the recent Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend, the UNLV track & field team earned selections to the upcoming NCAA West Regional Championships, as announced on Wednesday. The Rebels were invited to bring eight different student-athletes this year for the second consecutive season.
The Scarlet & Gray will have three track events represented during the meet and one field event. KayVeonna Jackson will represent the Scarlet & Gray in the 100m after her personal-best runner-up finish at the MW Outdoor Tack & Field Championships with a time of 11.40 seconds, which is tied for 48th in the West. Additionally, Jaci Wright will compete in the 100m Hurdles after running the fifth-fastest time in program history (13.31 - tied for 29th in the West) at the MW Championships.
Senior Roxene Simpson qualified for the discus, earning a spot with a personal-best mark of 53.26 meters (174 feet, 9 inches) at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships and is 30th in the West.
UNLV will also bring in a relay to the NCAA West Regional Championships, the team's 4x100m squad earning the invite. Outside of Jackson, the Rebels will bring in Mikah Scott, AnnaKay Maitland, Kaitlynn Webbe, Aly Winston and Gabby Goodgames as potential members to their relay squad.
The team will travel out to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the West Regional Championships, hosted by Arkansas. The team's first two events will take place on Thursday, May 28, kicking off the busy day with Wright in the women's 100m hurdles at 4 pm PT and Jackson in the 100m at 5 pm PT.Â
