COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field's
Jonon Young moved up one spot in the program's all-time indoor performance list for the long jump with her second-place finish in the event at Air Force's Championships at the Peak Friday.
Young recorded a measurement of 20-3.5 (6.18m) to take second and to move into a tie with Rebel alumna Billie Butler (1991). Earlier this month, she had registered a then-personal-best jump of 20-3 (6.17m) to crack the top-five list.
In addition to Young's performance, the Rebels also had five student-athletes qualify for three event finals Saturday, led by Nami Wilson in both the 60m and 200m. Wilson qualified sixth in the 60m (7.48) and fifth in the 200m (25.29).
Tianna Randle (seventh/7.48 PB) and
Azaria Hill (eight/7.53 PB) also advanced to the 60m final, while
Jazlynn Shearer (fourth/8.39) and
Rosalie Breems (seventh/8.69 PB) did the same for the 60m hurdles.
Breems also participated in the long jump and posted a personal-best mark of 18-2.25 (5.54m) to claim 10th place.
The Championships is composed of squads from conferences that are not sponsoring indoor championship meets this year, with representation from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Big Sky, MPSF (indoor home of the Pac-12) and WAC. The women's portion of the meet will feature No. 5 USC, No. 8 BYU, No. 9 Oregon, No. 18 Colorado and No. 25 Arizona as well as eight MW teams, three from the American, two from the Big Sky, one from the WAC and two from the MPSF (Pac-12).
The Rebels get started Saturday with a pair of field events: women's high jump (10:00 am MT/9:00 am PT) and triple jump (12:30 pm MT/11:30 am PT). UNLV will also have participants on the track in the 60m hurdles, 60m, 800m, 200m and mile relay.
