COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track & field finished third overall at Air Force's Championships at the Peak, with help from 11 top-eight finishes Saturday at the Cadet Field House. The Rebels accumulated 54 points and only trailed Wichita State (75 points) and fellow Mountain West squad Colorado State (54.5) at the three-day indoor meet.
The Scarlet & Gray was led by
Jazlynn Shearer's second-place showing in the 60m hurdles in a time of 8.23, which is tied for the second-fastest time alongside
Taylor Pegram (2017) in the program's all-time indoor performance list. Shearer also took third in the triple jump (42-8.25/13.01m).
Jonon Young improved her third-place standing in the program's performance list when she bested her personal-best distance in the triple jump with a mark of 42-8.25 (13.01m), tying Shearer for third.
The Rebels had three of their own finish in the top eight of both the 60m and 800m.
Tianna Randle (7.43 PB), Nami Wilson (7.49) and
Azaria Hill (7.55) claimed sixth, seventh and eighth in the 60m, respectively. In the 800m,
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete was second overall in 2:09.79, while
Elisa Rovere was sixth (2:17.32) and
Emma Wahlenmaier was seventh (2:17.92).
Wilson also ran in the 200m, finishing fifth in 24.86.
Rosalie Breems was fifth in the 60m hurdles (8.57 PB).
The Championships was composed of squads from conferences that did not sponsor indoor championship meets this year, with representation from the Mountain West, American Athletic Conference, Big Sky, MPSF (indoor home of the Pac-12) and WAC. The women's portion of the meet featured No. 5 USC, No. 8 BYU, No. 9 Oregon, No. 18 Colorado and No. 25 Arizona as well as eight MW teams, three from the American, two from the Big Sky, one from the WAC and two from the MPSF (Pac-12).
