Rebels Finish Third, Two Rebels in Top 10 On Final Day Of Clover Up

UNLV takes third at 3-over 867, sophomore Elina Saksa ties for fifth at 6-under 210 and senior Samantha Fuller ties for ninth at 3-under 213

MESA, AZ (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team wrapped up a strong weekend at ASU's Clover Cup tournament with the final round Sunday at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona. The Rebels shot a 3-over as a team in the third round to finish the tournament in third with the same score (3-over 867).

Two Rebels - sophomore Elina Saksa and senior Samantha Fuller - completed top-10 finishes, with Saksa tying for fifth at 6-under 210 and Fuller tying for ninth at 3-under 213. Saksa started the event with a career low single-round score of 6-under 66 to lead the field after one round and ended the tournament with a 2-under 70 Sunday to get back to 6-under. It was the Turku, Finland, native's third top-10 finish in four tournaments this spring. Fuller was her consistent, steady self, turning in rounds of 70, 72 and 71 for her second straight top-10 finish. Saksa sank 12 birdies over the three days, while Fuller tallied 10.

Junior Veronica Joels tied for 26th at 6-over, while freshmen Madeleine Laux (11-over 227) and Gracie Olkowski (14-over 230) finished in a tie for 45th and 57th, respectively. Luax carded her best round of the tournament Sunday with an even 72.

Arizona led after two rounds and started the day with a six-shot lead, but rival and host Arizona State carded an impressive 11-under 277 in the third round to overtake the Wildcats and win their home event a 16-under 848. Arizona finished in second at 13-under 851, followed by UNLV in third, Clemson in fourth at 5-over and Oklahoma in fifth at 7-over.

Arizona State's Linn Grant and Olivia Mehaffey finished one-two at 9-under and 8-under, respectively, with Mehaffey shooting a round of a lifetime of 10-under 62 Sunday to jump from tied for 17th to second in one day. Clemson's Ivy Shepherd and Arizona's Vivian Hou tied for third at 7-under, while Saksa and ASU's Alexandra Fosterling each came in one shot behind that at 6-under to tie for fifth.
