LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The Rebel track & field team returns home to host the UNLV Spring Opener Saturday. The one-day meet will take place at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field, and will welcome Dixie State, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Southern Utah, Utah and Utah Valley to campus.
The Opener gets underway at 9:30 am with the women's/men's hammer throw, the first of 17 events scheduled for the day. The running events start at 10:30 am with the women's 4x100m relay and conclude at 3:15 pm with the men's 4x400m relay.
Due to the pandemic, the beginning of the outdoor season will be contested without fans in attendance. UNLV Athletics will stay abreast of developments and health recommendations to determine if fans are able to attend home meets as the season progresses.
LAST TIME OUT: The Rebels opened their 2021 outdoor season at their own UNLV Winter Challenge on Feb. 13. The Scarlet & Gray claimed seven event victories, with wins in the 60m, 200m, 800m, 60m hurdles, long jump, high jump and hammer throw.
IN THE RANKINGS: The Rebels have six of their own ranked in the top 10 of six events nationally, with three coming in at No. 3 with
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete in the 800m (2:10.53),
Tenia Landrum in the long jump (19-0.5/5.80m) and Cassidy Osborne-Bulter in the hammer throw (181-0/55.16m).
Jaylen Walker is No. 4 overall in the triple jump (38-8.75/11.80m), while
Gaby Palmer is sixth in the pole vault (12-0/3.66m) and
Elisa Rovere is No. 8 in the 800m (2:14.45).
