LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team returns home to host the Silver State Classic at Myron Partridge Stadium & Sheila Tarr-Smith Field this weekend.
The two-day meet begins Friday with the men's hammer and women's shot put at 1:30 pm followed by the women's hammer and men's shot put at 3:00 pm.
Saturday's action features a total of 18 events (12 track and six field), and is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am with the women's 10K followed by the men's 10K. The women's 4x400m relay and men's 4x400m relay will wrap up the day's festivities at 3:45 pm and 4:00 pm, respectively. At 11:00 am, there will be a Welcome and Senior Recognition ceremony.
MOUNTAIN WEST RANKINGS: UNLV has a total of 13 student-athletes as well as its 4x100m relay (44.79) and 4x400m relay (3:40.89) teams ranked in the top-eight of 13 events in the Mountain West standings. Both relays are first overall, while
Cassondra Hall and
Jonon Young sit first in two events apiece, with the former leading the 100m (11.27) and 200m (23.08), while the latter tops the long jump (20-8/6.30m) and triple jump (43-8.5/13.32m). Additionally,
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete is first in the 800m (2:04.44). Four Rebels are second overall in as many events:
Tianna Randle in the 100m (11.38),
Rosalie Breems in the 100m hurdles (14.00),
Alia Scott in the 400m hurdles (1:00.39) and
Gaby Palmer in the pole vault (13-0.25/3.97m).
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three of the aforementioned student-athletes sit in the top 25 of the national rankings in a total of four events. Hall is 12th in the 100m and 17th in the 200m, while Wilson-Perteete is 10th in the 800m and Young is 12th in the triple jump.
LAST TIME OUT: The Rebels recorded four event wins and 27 top-eight finishes at the Mountain West Challenge in San Diego on April 7.
Kaysha Love (100m), Wilson-Peteete (800m) and Young (long jump) were victorious as individuals, while the foursome of
Alexis Surrell, Wahlenmaier,
Elisa Rovere and Scott won the 4x400m relay. Palmer rewrote the program's pole vault record for the third time this season, recording a height of 13-0.25 (3.97m).
