Rebs Move Into Tie For First With Sensational Senior Day Win

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's tennis team moved into a first-place tie with New Mexico with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Fresno State on a gorgeous Senior Day Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels, who were missing two starters, still managed to close their home schedule with a 10-1 mark, improved to 11-10 overall and 6-1 in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs saw their record fall to 15-4 and 4-2.

After pre-match ceremonies celebrated the team's pair of seniors, Alex Kobelt and Eric Samuelsson, who were making their final home appearance, it was the Bulldogs who earned a 1-0 lead by taking two of three in doubles play.

The Rebels, however, took the first set at five of six singles positions. Both seniors won their matches in straight sets and then local product Clayton Alenik gave the Rebels three points. All eyes eventually moved to court three where Milos Dabic finally finished off Angus Bradshaw, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, to end it.

REBEL OF THE MATCH: On Senior Day 2021, it was a sophomore -- Milos Dabic – who turned in the late heroics. He teamed with Alex Kobelt for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles before his dramatic clincher in singles.

QUOTABLE: "This was one of best Senior Days I've experienced as a coach. The team played for our two departing leaders and we had a great crowd, which helped a lot. Today was a great college match and it's too bad someone had to lose. We have a lot of respect for Fresno State and it came down to the very end when Milos somehow snuck out the final point. Lots of emotions out there today watching Alex and Eric play their last home match as Rebels. They are great players and even better human beings. We will miss both and wish them all the best for the future."
-UNLV Head Coach Owen Hambrook

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will close the regular season with a trip to San Diego State on Saturday starting at noon.
