Rebels Wrap Up Stay In Utah

UNLV track & field’s Acacia Astwood and Alondraa Smith competed in the hammer throw at BYU’s Clarence Robison Invitational Friday.

PROVO, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV's Acacia Astwood and Alondraa Smith wrapped up their one-day stay at BYU's Clarence Robison Invitational Friday. The meet, which began Thursday and runs through Saturday, is being contested at the Clarence F. Robison Track & Field Complex in Provo, Utah.
 
Astwood, who is coming off an injury and is working her way back to form to be ready for the Mountain West Championships, finished 19th against collegiate competitors with a mark of 152-11.5 (46.62m). Smith was 33rd with a measurement of 125-1.5 (38.14m).
 
MOUNTAIN WEST RANKINGS: Entering the weekend, UNLV has a total of 15 student-athletes as well as its 4x100m relay (44.79) and 4x400m relay (3:40.89) ranked in the top eight of 13 events in the current Mountain West performance list. Overall, the Rebels have four of their own in the top seven of the 100m and three in both the 200m and 100m hurdles.
 
Both relays sit first overall, while Cassondra Hall and Jonon Young are first in two events apiece, with the former leading the 100m (11.27) and 200m (23.08), while the latter tops the long jump (20-8/6.30m) and triple jump (43-8.5/13.32m). Additionally, Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete is first in the 800m (2:04.44). Hall and Wilson-Perteete are also sixth (54.54) and seventh (55.16) in the 400m, respectively.
 
Three more Rebels sit in the top eight of two events apiece, as Tianna Randle is second in the 100m (11.38) and fourth in the 200m (23.62), Kaysha Love is fourth in the 100m (11.63) and sixth in the 200m (23.69), and Taylor Shorter is fourth in the 100m hurdles (13.89) and sixth in the 400m hurdles (1:01.38).
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS: Three of the aforementioned student-athletes are in the top 25 of the national rankings in a total of four events, prior to this weekend. Hall is 15th in the 100m and 22nd in the 200m, while Wilson-Perteete and Young come in 17th in the 800m and triple jump, respectively.
