Jack Trent Holds Individual Lead At Mountain West Championship

UNLV men's golf is in third place as a team, just three shots off the lead, heading into the final round in Tucson.

TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior Jack Trent shot back-to-back rounds of 3-under 69 during the first day of play Friday at the Mountain West Championship and holds the individual lead by a shot at 6-under 138.

The 54-hole, two-day event is being being played at OMNI Tucson National's Catalina Course (par 72, 7,194 yards).

As a team, UNLV is just three shots off the lead in third place at 3-under 573 after rounds of 1-over 289 and 4-under 284. Boise State leads the 11-team tournament at 6-under, followed by San Diego State is second at 5-under. UNR is in fourth place at 2-under, while New Mexico rounds out the top five at even par.

Trent is tied for the tournament lead in birdies with 10. His first round consisted of five birdies and two bogeys, while his second round had five birdies, an eagle and four bogeys. Boise State's Hugo Townsend is in second at 5-under followed by Colorado State's Davis Bryant and UNR's Sam Meek, both tied for third at 4-under. Only 11 of the 55 golfers competing are under par.

OTHER REBELS: UNLV sophomore George Leigh is tied for 16th at 1-over, senior J.J. Gresco is tied for 23rd at 2-over, fifth-year Justin Kim is tied for 29th at 3-over and junior David Rauch is tied for 44th at 9-over.
