CLOVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team finished third overall at the 2021 Mountain West Outdoor Championships Saturday. The Rebels accumulated a total of 122 points, with 89 of those coming on the third and final day of the conference meet, which was held at Veteran's Memorial Stadium and won by San Diego State (161 points).
The Scarlet & Gray's third-place finish is the fourth straight top-three showing dating back to the 2017 MW Outdoors. The Rebels took second-place honors in 2018 and have been third three times recently (2017, 2019 and 2021). The 2020 meet was not contested due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Rebels picked up another event victory from
Jonon Young who claimed the triple jump title with a distance of 42-10.75 (13.07m). On Friday, Young won the long jump.
Saturday's 89 points were a result of 16 top-eight finishes, with
Cassondra Hall directly providing 16 of those points with her runner-up finishes in the 100m (11.36) and 200m (23.18). Hall and teammates
Kaysha Love,
DeAndra Greer and
Tianna Randle were responsible for eight more points from running the opening leg of the second-place 4x100m relay (44.34).

The Rebels also got third-place finishes from Love in the 100m (11.59),
Rosalie Breems in the 100m hurdles (13.87 PB), and
Alia Scott in the 400m hurdles (1:00.59).
QUOTABLE: "Obviously, this was not the outcome we hoped for because our team is better than we showed this weekend. All teams have been faced with adversity this year and we definitely had our fair share and just let things slip out of our hands. We had several great moments to celebrate, but at the end of it all it wasn't enough this weekend. So now, we will focus on the NCAA Prelims and work hard to get to the final show!" –
Yvonne Wade, Director of Track & Field and Cross Country
