COLLEGE STATION, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team had four of its own qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals at the NCAA West Preliminary following their performances in the first round of a quartet of track events at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium Thursday.
The Rebels were led by
Cassondra Hall in both the 100m (third) and 200m (seventh), behind personal-best times of 11.02 and 22.82, respectively. More impressively, those times rank highly in UNLV's all-time outdoor performance list as well as the Mountain West's record book. Hall's 100m time is third at both UNLV and the MW, while the 200m time is No. 2 at UNLV and No. 4 in the MW.
Kaysha Love also posted a personal-best time of 11.38 in the 100m (22nd), to advance to Saturday.
UNLV's
Jazlynn Shearer and
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete also moved on to the quarterfinals of the 100m hurdles (22nd) and 800m (fourth), respectively. Shearer clocked a personal-best time of 13.24, while Wilson-Perteete ran 2:05.16.
In addition to qualifying in their respective events Saturday, Hall, Love and Wilson-Perteete will also compete in one or both of the relays. Hall will be joined by Love,
DeAndra Greer and
Tianna Randle in the 4x100m relay, and later in the 4x400m relay by Wilson-Perteete, Amari Prude and
Taylor Shorter.
Jonon Young will also compete Saturday in the triple jump.
NOTES:
-Hall's 100m time of 11:02 was one of seven that was faster than the Cushing Stadium record for the event, which was set by Alabama's Tamara Clark (11.15) nearly two weeks ago on May 14. Only Oregon's Kemba Nelson (10.91) and USC's Twanisha Terry (10.99) ran faster times than Hall in the event.
-Randle finished 33rd in the 100m with a time of 11.55.
-Young finished 26th in the long jump with a mark of 20-3.5 (6.18m).
