SAN JOSE, Costa Rica (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV track & field's Acacia Astwood had a pair of podium-worthy finishes in the hammer throw and discus at the North American, Central American, Caribbean Athletic Association's U18-U20-U23 Championships this weekend at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica.
 
The sophomore from Nassau, Bahamas, won the NACAC U23 gold medal in the hammer with a mark of 168-0 (51.22m) on her fifth attempt Saturday. One day earlier, Astwood claimed the NACAC U23 silver medal in the discus with a distance of 128-0 (36.78m).
 
Just one year ago, Astwood placed her name in the Bahamian indoor record book with a hammer throw mark of 62-5 (19.02m) – second place –  thrown at the 2020 Mountain West Indoor Championships.
